i stumbled across my room to turn on my light and do something with my hair. i packed the last few things in my carry-on and headed to the airport.
i listened to bringing home beautiful as i traveled to XNA.
one of the songs said i'll be your hands, i'll be your feet.
i thought about what that meant and i realized how short i fall.
as i sit here on the top bunk of large room in haiti, i'm still thinking about how i don't really get it. how Jesus loved. how he pursued. how he gave grace. and how i don't really do these things.
no words can really prepare anyone for the magnitude of the devastation in haiti. john furlow was telling me about how you see the pictures on a small scale and then in person it just is slightly overwhelming. tent cities are everywhere and by everywhere i mean EVERYWHERE. along the median of the roads, jammed packed by the thousands onto property that once held houses or businesses.
it's not beautiful. it's a disaster.
but as i'm looking out the window of our bus and we are stopped by traffic a little boy comes up to the window. he asks for money, i don't speak his language and i don't know what to say. so i smiled and he smiled back. it was a beautiful smile.
i saw a boy who lived his everyday life in the devastation, but he was beautiful. and that began to effect the way i viewed the streets of this country. i put my camera away and decided to think about Jesus and how he gives beauty for ashes.
each person is a story.
so i want you to hear that this country is a disaster in every sense of the world, but it is FULL of some of the most beautiful people i have ever met. tomorrow i'm going to get to know some of their stories and i couldn't be more excited.
i am so guilty of forgetting and i fear three days back in fayetteville and i'll forget again. but i want you to know that this place needs to be rebuilt because i have never seen such beauty before.
beauty for ashes.
bringing home beautiful.
it's what He does. it's what we get to be a part of.
i love this country already and i've only been here a few hours.

Very powerful Savannah. May God be with you every step of your journey. It is through Him all things are possible.
I'm so thankful for you and the way you humbly follow our amazing, loving Jesus. My heart aches for you and for the people of Haiti. I love you, sister friend.
Enjoyed hearing about your time thus far.
I wish you the best and that you would find delight in the concurrent beauty and adventure of Haiti.
P.S. Savannah, can we please hang out some time when you get back. Mal raves about you, yet we have barely met. I'd like to remedy. Soon I hope. Take care!
