this is day one of 100 joys and it felt like satan knew i going to be more intentional about finding the joy because he seemed to be stealing it all day.
it was a long day.
a lot of clients.
a lot of brokenness.
after lunch i had to run downtown to the bentonville square for an assessment and had 10 extra minutes. so i happened into a cupcake shop that was darling. i've passed by it countless times, but decided in the midst of a chaotic day my heart needed a cupcake.
as it turns out, i also needed the sweet little old lady whom i'll call ruthie. she greeted me with a smile and then proceeded to talk about how adorable my cowboy boots and dress were. i thought about how terrible i thought i looked and how i really shouldn't have passed on the shower this morning. but her compliments made me smile and i thanked her. from there we just chatted and i told her i wanted a chocolate lover cupcake. i told her it had been a crazy day. she laughed and said then this is absolutely what you need. as she handed me the cupcake we exchanged some stories and she encouraged me. i left a little lighter (figuratively speaking) and a little heavier due to the extra 1000 calories i consumed. but in the midst of a crazy day, i found joy in a cupcake and my cowboy boots because of ruthie.
then the afternoon could accurately be described as a joykill. i was supposed to leave work at 6, but i left at 7 because of a surprise client. normally i wouldn't mind, but it was late and i was tired. i got dinner, came home, and felt a little out of words. i sorted through the mail that came today and found a precious note from my dear sisterfriend in texas. it was a daymaker. this girl epitomizes joy and she's devoted the next 31 days to telling about it too, so you should go visit her too.
joy is all around me, i just have to be willing to embrace it. #100joys
