i decided last night after finishing a movie that i would read & go to bed early (around 10). sleeping before ten has not happened since i went to college, so i was excited for the opportunity. thus in order for that to happen, i turned out ALL the lights and headed to my room. however, before going to bed i decided that i should switch the load of laundry that was in the washer. without thinking much about it i walked through the dark living room and into the COMPLETELY dark kitchen towards the laundry room. without warning i was stopped in my tracks by stepping on something slimy and alive. that's right ladies & gentleman, i stepped on a snake. it was alive and in my kitchen. it took me about .4 seconds before i was screaming loud enough to awaken the WHOLE neighborhood and dialing my older brother's phone number. he answers within the first two rings and i proceed to irrationally yell about how i just had an encounter with a snake and he had to come kill it. from that moment on, i was standing on the yellow chair in the living room making sure that i was a safe enough distant from the disgusting thing, but yet could keep it in sight so that we (he) could kill it. nathan arrived about fifteen minutes into the adventure, got a shovel, and took care of the snake. he became my hero. my heart-rate was up for the next two hours and an early night of sleep was out of the question.
thankfully, many laughs have now occurred in regards to my frantic call for help and my utter helplessness. in retrospect, i have learned three valuable lessons.
1. turn on the lights.
2. watch where you walk
3. brothers are the best
