saturday morning, i went to work at the doctor's office for a little bit (i quit working there in august but i still work a few saturdays here & there) i digress.
once i got home around noon, i went to open up my computer to check on baby harper and then begin homework. to my surprise, i opened my mac to a blank screen.
thinking that was odd, i attempted to turn it off and on. nothing. before i freaked out i called my little brother who lives with bobby, a computer guru. they were home so i left my house to have them check it out (don't worry that my outfit consisted for sweats, uggs, & a ponytail which would end up being my attire for the day)
bobby hooked up my computer to his and tried to get it do anything. he called bhill, my brother who is a genius. he had already told me on the way to bobby's house that it was possible it was my hard drive. bobby agreed and thought driving to tulsa would be the best thing to do. i called the apple store and they gave me an appointment for 5:40. the thought of losing everything on my computer was about to make me throw up and by this point tears had been streaming down my face for 3o minutes. i called my mom who agreed to drive with me. so off we went.
did you know you can pray about a mac? well i don't know if you can, but i did.
you see, i don't own an external hard drive nor a jump drive nor any other kind of drive.
so i was praying for the 5 semesters of grad school, clinical notes, internship hours, music, pictures, and life that was located on the precious white box.
so fast forward to tulsa. mac in hand, it was my turn with the apple genius. he was honest upfront and told me that due to the thumping sound the odds are not good. however, due to the fact that my computer had not had ANY problems recently and even worked fine that morning he said there was a little hope.
so joshua worked and i cried. i even prayed more. i explained the importance of all that was on it thinking that it would make him try harder. he was a kind soul and one of the many reasons that i will forever use apple. but unfortunately was not a miracle worker. i lost everything.
there was a possibility of sending the hard drive to a data retrieval service with a minimum of $800 with no guarantees except the cost. so in light of the situation, we opted to not send it there. they agreed to extend my warranty though it actually ended a month ago. the only good news was that they replaced it for free. but i have a blank computer. no documents. no pictures. no music. nothing.
is it the end of the world? no.
but has it made me ill? yes.
to think that i would not have backed up any of the papers, research, and countless other documents that i have spent HOURS of my life on, is beyond me.
is there a lesson in this? most assuredly.
but have i figured it out completely? no, but i'll let you know when i do.
i fully realize that this is selfish and superficial to be so upset about a computer. so part of this post is confessing that and part of this post is the reality that life still went on today.
god is good....he makes all things new, even a mac book.

1.i didn't even know you had a blog
2. I am sad that the first post I ever read from your blog is this sad one
2. consider me your new biggest blog fan (i already know i am going to love reading your posts, I just know it)
3. i kept hoping that at the end of this blog you were going to say "just kidding, joshua found everything on my hard drive". but you never did
4. sorry friend
It absolutely won't make you feel any better, but I do want to say, "I know exactly how you feel."
Remember the house burglary of 2007 and the unfortunate exodus of my lappy? Remember how all my pictures were lost forever - all my college and Russia pictures? It's horrible!
And it should motivate both of us to continue on a mission to educate friends and family of the importance of regular backups.
I am super-so-sorry.
