friday night was date night.
he had said he would plan it after making a joke about asking me what i wanted to do. he's funny like that.
he told me he'd pick me up at 7:00 which was per usual for a friday night date.
we went to noodles.
an important aspect of this story for clarification on how i had no idea i was getting engaged:
1. i didn't shower that day and wore my hair in a pony tail.
2. my nails looked horrific.
while at dinner i'm asking him what we're going to do after. he was acting like he was tired so i figured maybe a movie? he said we were going to watch something. so in usual fashion i start asking him 20 questions. i guess lion king. no. i guess countless other movies. no. finally we're leaving the restaurant and i said, what are we watching and he said you can keep guessing or just wait :)
so here's where i need to back up and tell you about a couple of weeks ago:
i'm adjuncting at JBU this semester. in my class i showed them the office episode of when jim and pam get married. i made aaron watch it with me a few weeks ago as i prepared for class and he gave me a really hard time about it.
so now fast forward and he said we were watching a tv show.
he also added that he thought it would be funny but that i probably wouldn't. awesome.
and so i guessed the office...
so we are in the car and he pulls out his laptop and puts in an episode of the office. it was the "chair model" episode from season four. specifically the one where jim talks about how the proposal is coming and he shows pam's engagement ring.
i hit aaron in the arm and ask him how could he joke about proposing? he said he was just getting me back for making him watch jim and pam's wedding. we laugh a lot and then he puts the computer away and says we'll just go back to my house. while driving home he asks if i want to go to wilson park. we go often, but i told him didn't want to go because it was cold. he said, "come on, it will be fun and we'll just walk for a little bit" so i say i sure, but that i don't want to walk very long. so we start walking and come upon some mason jars with candles.
i'm perplexed and then just start shaking my head. he tells me to keep walking.
mason jars filled with tea light candles line the sidewalk leading down to this precious green bench that i fell in love with at an antique store this summer.

aaron says, "it's your bench"
i begin freaking out.
we walk down towards the bench and i sit down. he gets down on one knee.
he says a lot of things that i can't exactly remember, but what i do remember is him saying i'm the best woman he's ever known. he loves me and it would be his greatest honor if i would be his wife and would i marry him?"

"yes, YES, YES, yes, YES, YES" is what came out of my mouth.
i cried a little, but mostly couldn't quit smiling and asking 12 million questions.

we get back in his four runner and head home only to find the majority of my favorite people in the world on my deck which had been decorated so beautifully.

to say i was surprised is the understatement of the year.
i am so humbled and grateful to get to do life with aaron conner.

i absolutely cannot wait to become his wife on...
