4.18.09

two years ago, my grammy pulled out of wal-mart and into the arms of Jesus.
she was a precious lady who is loved by so many.
i know she's dancing with gramps and singing to Jesus.
today we celebrate her.
today we miss her.

over the last two years, God has given so much to our family.
amy married nathan and they added the most precious little boy, tucker, to the family just four months ago. we've all traveled, moved, graduated, started new jobs, laughed a lot, and celebrated life. the absence of grammy has been felt in all of those events. and so today it seemed appropriate to take a few hours with my family and just spend time together. we went to grammy's grave and celebrated the beloved woman who raised our mother. we laughed. we cried. we remembered.

somehow i know that she would have loved today.
all of us being together, laughing and telling stories.
intermingled with such joy is a grief that lingers.
and i think that's totally okay.

"for in our suffering, not a part from it, Jesus enters our sadness, takes us by the hand, pulls us gently up to stand, and invites us to dance. we find the way to pray, as the psalmist did, "you have turned my mourning into dancing" because at the center of our grief we find the grace of God." -nouwen.

though our grief is real so is our joy.

i miss grammy and i am SO grateful for her life and how because of her death we have come to love each other more deeply, give more generously, and live more gratefully.

He has given. He has taken. And His name is indeed blessed in both.
