advent.

when i was a kid christmas seemed like it would never get here. christmas eve was by far the longest day of the year with the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 4:00a.m. feeling like an eternity.

i waited.
my brothers waited.
we plotted all sorts of ways to get the clock to move faster.
my mom & dad have always made a big deal out of holidays, christmas especially, and i love it. yes, they give us too much, but they also instilled in us a desire to give. that's why the anticipation is still there, it's just different. year after year i grow so anxious waiting for christmas.

here i sit 25 years old loving christmas just as much as i did when i was 5. however, it seems to arrive quicker every year and each year i wish there were more time to enjoy it & more time to celebrate. this idea of anticipation got me thinking about the whole purpose of advent. it was His coming. the anticipation & excitement about whether or not a wii is under the tree pales in comparison to the birth of Jesus.

and it's in the celebration of that waiting that i sit today.
i had the unbelievable honor of going with the furlows last night to hear chris tomlin & louie giglio with the glory in the highest tour. itwasunreal.

it was the perfect reminder of all the reasons we yearn for this holiday & all the reasons we celebrate. Jesus came into this broken, messy world and that is what He does still today. He comes into our brokenness, our mess. i want to celebrate the coming of His birth and anticipate His coming again.

so, "come all ye faithful, joyful & triumphant, come & behold him!"

Jesus came to our broken world & He continues to reside in the brokenness.
I need to recognize Him more.
I need to welcome Him more.

He came into the world in a manager & unfortunately my life isn't much prettier, but He is welcome here.

if you haven't heard this song by my all-time favorite singer, go now & listen.

come, thou long-expected Jesus!

"The first Advent brought relief from our sins.
The second Advent will bring relief from our sufferings.
Come, Lord Jesus." -unknown
