the last few days i have been lying in bed and watching movies. this is something that i love, but it has been rather difficult because beside me sits a growing list of things i should be doing. yesterday & today i was able to be out and about for a little bit. but tonight i returned to the location of the week, my bed, and put dan in real life in the dvd player for the second time.
if you haven't seen it, run don't walk to your nearest red box or local video rental store and check it out. i would even suggest purchasing it. yes, it's that good. you'll want it in your collection. promise.
somehow the story of dan's life has inspired me. it made me laugh and cry (okay, maybe pain meds contributed to crying) but nonetheless. it's a beautiful movie.
dan's family reminds me a little of my own family and also of the family i would love to have one day. he says something in the movie that i find to be really true. "i want to talk to you about life plans, how we all make them, how we hope our kids make good, smart safe plans of their own. but if we're really honest with ourselves. most of the time our plans don't work out as we'd hope. so instead of our asking our young people what are your plans? what do you plan to do with your life? maybe we should tell them this, plan to be surprised."
so i'm planning to be surprised. that's real life. unpredictable. messy. confusing. beautiful. and a heck of a lot of fun.
